Tommie Tuesday no. 1

Good evening, everyone! ("...and welcome to the Church of St. Paul, as we celebrate the feast of ..." -- I don't think I'll ever be able to hear that phrase without following it up as at COSP. :))

As I write this, my housemates and I are participating in our own "grand silence" -- that is, no talking after Night Prayer.  I could see it becoming more difficult with time, but it's also amazingly peaceful and worth the effort.

Today's big event was the "March Through the Arches," where the Freshmen are officially welcomed into UST.  This was impressive, mainly because of the number of people involved -- fitting the entire Freshmen class into a gym is no small feat!  This picture may give you some idea (this pic shows about 1/3 of the students on the floor, and directly behind me were risers with about the same number of students as were on the floor):

(That's an unwieldy description of the situation, but hopefully it give you some idea, as I felt I shouldn't take panoramic pictures during the speeches.)  Thankfully, I was on the end of the front riser, with space between me and the people on the floor, so it was perfectly enjoyable. :)

After the March and "Interfaith Blessing" (I was skeptical, but the chanting in Hebrew and Arabic was interesting and the Bible verse one of my favorites), Maria and Josie (both in my Theo/Phil paired courses) and I headed to Mass, and by the time we got back, the lunch lines had died down, yet there was still plenty of food left!  Jesus was watching out for us. :)

Classes begin tomorrow...!
