Full Tuesday

Today has been one of those long but good days.  Classes - CATH and CISC - went fairly well; we read some of King Lear aloud, which is really the best way to read Shakespeare, and I took a file containing the complete works of Jane Austen and made a new file, still with the same words, but one word per line and all punctuation (except hyphens and apostrophes) removed.  (Bonus points for whoever can match the activity with the correct class! ;))  Piano Performance Class, practice, choir, more practice, work - in the computer lab, a Latin assignment, and home again 13 hours later. So. yeah!  Goodnight!

Back to Blogging

Salvete, omnes qui me sequimini!  I have to apologize: I had planned to switch to Twitter updates this semester, but never really got into a routine with it.  Looking back on the semester, which is just a blur, and, realizing how nice it was last year to have the blog to keep track of what I'd been doing, I'm going to try to pick it up again (using as many -ing words as possible, preferably putting in one in each clause).  Might not be daily posts, but it will be better than nothing. :)

This weekend has been full: it was Borromeo Weekend (St. Charles Borromeo's feast day was sometime this past week, and the seminaries go all-out in commemoration), which on Fri. night consisted of Mass and a candlelight procession across campus (and there were, if I estimate correctly, about a million seminarians, so it was a pretty impressive procession), and ended with Cor Jesu.  Here Emily G., Anne W. (both new Lit Music Majors), Margaret H., and myself got to sing the Litany of the Sacred Heart with four of the Handmaids; I'd say it went well and beautifully!

Saturday: Katie and I biked to Whole Women's to shadow the sidewalk counselors.  It was colder than we had anticipated, our tires were pretty flat, and one of the ladies had pity on us and drove us back to UST. :)  That evening, after MMCing for Mass, "The Squad" came over to watch the Two Towers!  I was greatly disappointed by the Ents, but the rest of the movie was fantastic (and enhanced by commentary on Theodin's tactical choices, Aragorn's failure to guard hearts, etc).

Sunday: Holy Hour to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life = Handmaids again!

And finally, hodie - Dies Lunae: the adjustment back to student life after all that excitement has been a little rough.  However, I got cranberries at Whole Foods the other day, and ate them with pumpkin pancakes for dinner, which was pretty exciting. :)

Now, to King Lear.  Valete, et dormite bene!

Last day as a Freshman

This morning:  did some studying; moved lots of things from Burgundy (the women's house on Summit) to our house for next year.

This afternoon:  Calc final, which went fine, and means that I am done with school for the year!  Then baking, for the Sisterhood dinner held...

This evening:  so we had the aforementioned Sisterhood dinner, with both present and past members of the Sisterhood; it was a great time with wonderful food (sandwiches by and lots of laughs.

Being done with finals means that Michaela and I both have time on our hands, and it turns out that Lit Music Majors and free time can be a dangerous combination!  Here's a preview of our night's work - for our choir direction, Mr. Aaron Brown:

(It comes complete with a page of choir warm-ups set to all the syllables in the book - "moo-moo-moo-moo-moo-moo-moo-moo-moo" (ascending do-so, then descending), "tick-a-tock-a-tick-a-tock-a-tick-tock-tick-tock," etc. :))

First Day of Finals/Music Details from the Weekend

Computer Science and Latin finals finished today!  So 3 down, 1 to go.

The past few days have been very music-y (sometimes more successfuly than others):
  • Saturday: MMC and cantor for Mass, but I gave the pianist the book with the old translation... and my music had the new translation... you know how they talk about "going out with a bang"?  Well, this was one way to do that.
  • Sunday: last Lit Choir Sunday of the year -- thankfully, this one went much more smoothly than the previous night!
  • Monday: in-house scholarship audition, which I think went well overall, then leading music for the Study Monday Mass at night.  From piano, and with a guitarist and cantor (but we nixed the raise-your-arm-to-bring-the-people-in thing ;)): more like St. Paul's than anything I've done all year, and it was great!  (With the exception of the Gospel acclamation where I panicked as to what key we were in and threw the cantor off, but it wouldn't be music if there wasn't something like that, right?)
Enjoying the slower pace, but trying not to totally peter out.  Just a few more days!

Semi-Productive Study Weekend

It's been such a relief to have Music History finished that I haven't been as motivated to study for everything else as I perhaps should have been... well, I shall see as the week progresses!

Family, on the last day of Music History, we looked at some examples of modern notation (pictured below) that I think you would all enjoy playing -- so prepare the boomwackers! :)

Last day of classes, cont.

Well, there it is: Freshman-year classes are finished!  I also had my piano jury this morning and my Music History final this afternoon -- it was a full day.  I'm kind of tired, but also so relieved to have made it through. :)

My week has mostly been full of crazy studying, but here's a few other tidbits:

Lilacs are out!

Digging up the road in front of the next-door women's house this morning.  We're not exactly sure what's going on, but it has something to do with the water line... just in time for finals...

A typical pre-finals women's-house pile:

And, last but not least, I'm trying my best to stay hydrated and not get sick, for just one more week:

Congratulations to those who have finished, non modo classes, sed quoque finals, today (ea est pulchra soror mea Amanda :D <3 get="" nbsp="" ow="" p="" sleep="" some="" to="">

Last Day of Classes!

Dies Veneris est!

(Don't know why I'm on such a Latin kick, but since I started, I feel obligated to finish, so that you can learn all the days of the week.  And it makes the title so easy. :))

No pictures from today, but here's me getting drenched on the way back from Mass yesterday:

I guess you can't quite tell how wet I am in this picture -- but it was wet enough that we had to sing "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." :D  Grateful for the lack of rain today!

Choir Concert

Not mine -- Concert Choir and Chamber Singers -- and it was fabulous!!!  Loved every minute of it, especially a beautiful, modern and harmonically cool "Salve Regina," which started with ... tone clusters? or whatever the choral equivalent is.  Started with two clashing notes, then added more... and more... higher and higher... the effect was a wave of sound that just - oh - goose-bumps - I guess this is where the expression "words fail me" comes in.  (It's so hard to describe music, because if our words about it were really all that it was, then there would be no point in making music.)  And they closed with a really fun arrangement of "Down to The River to Pray": perfect ending. :D

Guess I kind of like music...

Dies Mercurii: Philosophy Symposium

Salvete, omnes!

Volo scribere totum Latine, sed hodie nimis fessa sum, et lente scribeo, et ille tempum longum ante dormientem facit.

(Or something like that... :))

Tonight was the Philosophy Club's Symposium, which was really quite interesting.  We've been debating about aesthetics this semester, and it was great to get an actual definition of beauty and art!  The ideas are still up for debate, of course, but this helps. :)  Maybe I will include more details later -- on a night when I don't spend time beginning in Latin... ;)

Also, I'm feeling quite satisfied right now because all my array functions are working!  So if you ever need to sort the values in a two-dimensional array from least to greatest, just let me know.

Finally, I discovered the English Lit section of the library:

Well, that's all for tonight.  Valete, et dormite bene!

First Communions/Recitals

This morning, since I was not MMC-ing or singing for UST, I went with some of my neighbors and housemates to Mass at St. Mark's, where they were having first communions.  The first communicants were all darling (and even served as lectors, which I found impressive!), and it served as a good reminder of the importance of Mass and Holy Communion.

This afternoon was one of recitals: first, a senior recital by a Piano Performance major (it was amazing!), and then a level 1 recital by two piano majors, a voice major (tenor, in case you're wondering :)), and violinist: also all amazing!  Not only that, but between recitals I also went to the Binz, a cafeteria at which I have been intending to eat all year, with a couple other students, so that was fun. :)

I hope that you've all had a refreshing weekend!

It's May!

Hard to believe that it's already May!  But it is, as proven by the results of the recent April showers:

So far, the month is off to a good start.  Yesterday night was Cor Jesu, to which Amanda came and afterwards slept over. :) (Not sure if that mix of phrases actually makes a grammatically correct sentence...)  Thanks, Pandy, for all the fun talking; it was great to spend time with you! <3 p="">

Today was mostly a day of quiet productivity, but this evening, Jessica, Stephanie, and I brought a picnic dinner down to the river, which was a good break.  Here's our view of the beautiful St. Mary's Chapel on our way back:

Only two more weeks of classes!

Prison Ministry/House Dinner

Last night, I was privileged to visit the Lino Lakes Correctional Facility with the University of St. Thomas Liturgical Choir (i.e., go sing at the prison).  I wasn't at all sure what to expect, but the friendliness and joy of the inmates blew me away.  They were so appreciative -- honestly, just like when singing at a nursing home, but coming from a group of bearded, tattooed, "Amen!"-ing guys, it was a whole new experience.  "Soon and Very Soon" was by far the biggest hit, but I was most touched by their response to "Amazing Grace."  I used to think that that was just another over-played hymn, but singing it with a bunch of prisoners who are in love with the Lord was so humbling!

And tonight, I cooked for house dinner (perhaps I should have clarified: the title of this post refers to two separate evenings :)).

It won't let me post a pic of my pizzas in progress (quick, siblings et alii homeschooled children: what literary technique did I just [accidentally] use??), but that's probably for the best, as we really ought to tackle the oven next house cleaning.  But the pizzas were tasty, and there are leftovers; yay! :)

Frustrating evening study sessions + fresh baked cookies...

= a dangerous combination (but a slightly less frustrated Emily ;)).

A few pictures for you:

Pansies, because they reminded me of Granny. :)

Minneapolis, because I was there making a Target run, all by myself!

So I guess someone decided to keep one end of the practice room area all to themselves?

(The doors are both open in this picture -- when they are closed, it's an open hallway.)

Sunny Monday

Greetings, everyone;

I hope that you have all been appreciating the sun today!  Mama, you will be pleased to hear that I ate both lunch and dinner outside -- hard to tell in this picture, but here's my little spread:

Okay, so I was rather desperate for a picture... :)  And I needn't have been, since I just made this:

It's not actually functional right now, but by Wed. morning it should be a little drawing program!  Doesn't it look nice? ;)

Now, time for bed.  Goodnight!

Mama's Birthday

... so happy birthday, Mama!  Last night, G-pa brought me back to the northern suburbs, and in the morning shuttled me to the Meuer house to surprise Mama at her birthday breakfast (which was cutely choreographed, thanks to Manda; great job, party planner!).  A huge thank you to Grandma and Grandpa for dinner last night and driving me all around!

Also: this week, flowers started blooming in our yard:

They were such a beautiful rainy day treat. :)

Other excitement of the week: on Thursday, Campus Ministry hosted an event called NightFEVER -- students went out in teams of two and invited everyone we met to come to the Chapel, light a candle, and pray for peace in the world (or whatever personal intentions they might have) in front of the Blessed Sacrament.  It was quite a Holy-Spirit-filled night!

The rest of the time, I've basically been doing homework and making music -- so not a bad life. :)  Hope that you are all having a good, refreshing weekend!

Tired Fourth Day/Whitney's Birthday

Hi everyone,

Feels like forever since I've posted!  But I guess it's only been a few days. :)  I had a refreshing retreat, even though taking the weekend off for it meant that today was crazy.  However, I'm pretty much done w/hw and on my way to bed, and it's only 11!

Today was Whitney's birthday -- so happy birthday, Whitney!

Such a great housemate deserves neater lettering than that, but it's the best we could do. :)

And here are some of the coding highlights of the day:

(The above is supposed to be a 3 element array... I'm not quite sure what went wrong...)

But then I got it working:
Doesn't that just look nice and organized?

Goodnight!

Late Homework Night

... but I finished my essay rewrite!  I'm trying to be grateful that doing homework until this hour is the exception for me, and just not thinking about getting up tomorrow. :P

And with that, I should probably get to bed.  (Sorry, I thought maybe I had something more substantial to say, but I guess not...)  Goodnight!

Haydn Mahlerque/Michaela and Micaela Andrew's Recital

The past couple nights have been full of concerts.  Latin scholars who recognize the suffix "que", meaning "and", in the title of this post, may suspect that one of the concerts included Haydn and Mahler, and they would be right: last night I heard the MN Orchestra, playing Haydn's "Farewell" Symphony (in which the musicians walk offstage during the final movement!) and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde.  Then this evening, I had the pleasure to attend a joint recital by Michaela Andrews (horn) and Micaela Andrews (soprano).  Both are Liturgical Music Majors, and since there are only four of us, Lit Music has the distinction of being the only major (as far as I know) where half of the students have the same name. :)

And Michaela (with an h)'s parents were kind enough to provide snacks:

How cute are those treble clefs?

Thursday of the Octave of Easter + Fr. Robert Barron

Today was a relatively straightforward Thursday; no picture, but some highlights of this evening:

  • Sisterhood dinner -- formation by Dr. Klein and chili by Whitney for a double win!
  • Fr. Barron came to speak at St. Thomas!  His talk was entitled "Aquinas and Why the New Atheists Are Right", and while much of the metaphysics of it went over my head, I enjoyed stretching my brain to try to comprehend it, and did grasp some. :)
  • 500 w/Nick, Katie, and Nathan (not my siblings; the other K & N ;)).  They won in the second hand, thanks to Nathan's successful 8 no-trump bid (it helps to have all the aces!).  And I bid and started to lead the next hand before realizing that I had the joker (we were using a 2 of hearts for it)... whoops...  Still a fun game, though. :)

Wednesday of the Octave of Easter

A couple interesting pictures for today; first, the "confetti" generated by a program I wrote:

I tell it how many little pieces of confetti to make (this is 200, fyi), and it gives them random positions and colors!  If that's not interesting, then you probably shouldn't major in Computer Science.  (But if it is, come join the club! ;))

Speaking of clubs, I went to Swing Dance Club for the first time tonight, and it was amazing!  The other dancers were all very good (and, thankfully for me, willing to share their expertise). :)  I hope to go back again soon!

The final picture is actually from yesterday.  In trying to find the right story or emotion for my Haydn piece, Dr. Cornett and I decided that it should actually sound kind of like a little friendly monster -- and she just happened to have some on hand:

And because you're probably wondering just what those little Ugly Dolls sound like (look for the 4th mvt., about 8:56 in):

Thanks for reading; I hope you all have a good-night!

Back from Break

Happy Easter, everyone -- He is risen!

This past week, I've had a fabulous time at home with the fam!  Thank you all for the fun week of hanging out, playing card games, attending Triduum Masses, etc. :)

Is this a cute Easter boy or what?

Things are ramping up slowly here, and I think that I'm getting back into the school groove.  I also read an inspiring organizing book over break, and the result is my newly-folded shirt drawer:

Goodnight!

Turned-in-the-paper Thursday

This afternoon, I turned in my Music History paper at 5 minutes to 3 (before the deadline; it totally counts :D), did some math, and took a 1.5 hr. nap. :)  Woke up refreshed in time for Sisterhood dinner; it was the most relaxed evening I have had in some time!  Now, to see how quickly I can get back to bed. :)

(Oh, and in Computer Science we started making a clock -- so cool!)

Midterms!

Happy solemnity of the Annunciation!

My day consisted of midterms and the following:

The HTML for the square above is generated by my recent Javascript funtion: you pass it the element type, id, class, and content, it gives you the HTML; you put it in the .innerHTML of an id, it gives you this!

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

'Twas the night before midterms...

I was going to write you a little verse about how no one is stirring except me, but I just heard someone else get up, so I guess that won't work. :)  Only two more days until I can get back on a good sleep schedule!

(In other words: the paper's coming really slowly, and I'm just hoping that I remember everything I learned in Calc because I haven't even started reviewing.  I think I basically know it....)

Last Monday before Spring Break

Finished a Comp Sci assignment, got some good work done on my Music History paper, and now I'm off to bed.  Sleep well, everyone!

(Discovered in the library: Canon Law Digest.  Perused it for a few minutes; the title is misleading -- this would not make good waiting room reading material.)

Snowy Sunday

Hard to believe that I was sitting outside doing hw in the sunny yard last week!  Now it's covered in snow -- 3 inches and counting.  It's beautiful, though, and if it's going to be cold we may as well have some beauty to go with it.

(Says the girl who won't be driving anywhere in the near future. :))

Speaking of beauty, how about this tic-tac-toe game? :P

Ideally, the three winning marks would turn red...it's a work in progress.

My morning project:

So excited to finally have a sugar bowl! :)

Honestly, though, it's been a pretty crazy homework day (midterms next week!); a little Calc and I'm done for the night. :P  Almost to break!

Technical First Day of Spring

...and Bach's birthday!

(Though as I write this, I realize that I never actually listened to any Bach all day: shameful!  I'll put some on right now....)

Okay, I'm back, with one of the Brandenburg concertos (spellcheck doesn't like concerti, though Google seems to think that either would be correct) playing in the background. :)  Apparently there's been some confusion about when Bach's birthday really falls, since he was born before the calendar reforms; quick explanation of that here.

This afternoon, I went with a group of students to the Dorothy Day Center, where we put together "snack packs": bags of chips, fruit, water, etc., from food donations they've received.

And Amanda, you''ll appreciate this -- it's on Erin's wall:

Marriage prep night at Mass; this was the line to get into the chapel:

Doesn't look too formidable, maybe, but just think about it: there was a line to get into the chapel (and again, I had scheduled a cantor who was hoping for a small congregation)!  She did a wonderful job, though. :)

Last night, I got to see the Saint Paul Ballet spring contemporary show:

Can't you sense the pre-curtain excitement? :)  It was a great show -- would have been worth seeing even if my sister wasn't in it. :)  But she was, which made it even more exciting, and danced beautifully; way to go, Amanda!

Happy Solemnity of St. Joseph!

Not only that, but Caribou had a BOGO - and what better way to celebrate a Solemnity than with Caribou?

Okay, there are many ways, with the best way being Mass, and I did that, too. :)

Tonight was the 2nd night for the Jewish-Catholic film series, watching The Jewish Cardinal.  It was interesting (and in French!), but I'm definitely still a little confused by some of the plot subtleties...

And then, because I was already so productive, I went and played cards!  :P  But I won, so it's worth it. ;)

Probably my best hand of the game:

Oh, and I had a Computer Science midterm this morning, which was fine.  Latin and Music History quizzes tomorrow, though, so I will bid you all good night!

Happy Belated Feast of St. Patrick!

I forgot to wear green yesterday, so I wore it today... does that count?

I got the clip again yesterday:

He didn't ask for it today, and I didn't have any clever way of presenting it, so I still have it.  If you've got any good ideas for ways to give one's professor back his jaw clip, I'm all ears!

Post-busy-weekend Monday

Hi, all!

While I often mention that I'm working on homework, my actual schoolwork doesn't often make it up here.  In Calc, however, we all do take-home packets, then put the problems up on the board and discuss them, and today we had quite a few more problems than usual.  I was impressed by how full the chalkboard was, so here's a picture:

Intense, huh?  I hope that you are able to derive some pleasure from it. ;)

On a totally different note: philosophy club is held in an old room with cool windows which turn out to be great for photography.  So here's a nice pic of Teresa in which I make a (slightly sinister looking) cameo appearance:

Happy Pi Day!

I mean, what other numbers can be celebrated on a specific date with a delicious food?

(While I meant that rhetorically, if you know of any others, I'd love to hear about them. ;))

Yesterday, Bryanna and Amanda came down to visit!  Bry and I went to the Catholic Studies Talent Show, which was a blast, after which we all hung out at my tiny house; lots of fun. :)

And they came bearing gifts:

And here's me studying outside -- making use of Dr. Jarvis' clip!

("This is me fighting the bull." "Oooh!" "This is me and the bull." "Ahh!" :P)

Cooking for Sisterhood Dinner, et cetera

This pile of staples is the illustration for my story of the day:

In computer science, we have to turn in printed copies of our programs, with the HTML and Javascript files stapled together (in that order -- in case you were wondering).  At the last minute, I changed something and tried to staple my new HTML sheet onto the Javascript, but with no success.  I was having trouble with the stapler, so Dr. Jarvis tried to fix it, but ended up sending staples flying all over.  Kind of funny; in the end he just took my unstapled sheets (whose corners were much the worse for wear).

(Also pictured: Dr. Jarvis' pen, which I returned later as a sort of peace offering.  Though it didn't quite work that way -- "I help you fix the stapler, and you steal my pen?" :))

The rest of the day was of a calmer nature; I went to choir, did my homework, and, with Jessica's help, cooked white chicken chili for the sisterhood dinner.  It was a great success: everything finished on time, we had a good amount of food, and the girls all said they liked it (and, while they would probably be nice enough to come up with some way to say that they liked anything I cooked, I thought it turned out well :))!

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Another sunny day!

Sol mihi placet (as you may have gathered from my last couple posts)!  I don't know why I get so excited about warm weather and sunshine every year -- I guess I tend to forget over the winter that there are such things as warmth and sunshine, and they come as a welcome surprise. :)

Our microwave clock got set to military time this daylight savings, which I wouldn't mind, except that this is what it said this morning at 10:15 :

I get the impression that whoever set it (in the afternoon) didn't realize that there are both 12 and 24 hour options. :)

Interesting discussion about the definition of art in Philosophy club this evening.  And last night was a good night for sleep, so I'm going to try for that again.  Goodnight, all!

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Beautiful Day!

The weather was so gorgeous today that it nearly made up for the fact that I was extremely sleepy. :)  And in an effort to fight that, I'm going to to go to bed now, with not quite all my homework done, and with the knowledge that I probably won't have time to finish it all tomorrow - certainly not to my satisfaction.  However, I think I'm tired enough that I just might sleep well anyway.

Monday, March 9, 2015

Estne ver?

This past weekend, I was able to go home and see my family!  It was so great to spend time with you all, to play card games and talk you in person. :)

And now I'm back to the hectic school life -- made a little less hectic this morning by the fact that I simply didn't wake up until 8:30 and missed my 8:15 class!  Once I recovered from my first look at the clock and the panic accompanying it, it was good to have a little more time and sleep.

Of course, I've been enjoying this lovely weather, and I hope that you have all had a chance to do so as well.  It's only March -- but perhaps spring is already here?

Jenna's Birthday

Jenna's birthday conveniently fell on a Thursday, so we celebrated with our weekly house dinner. :)  It's been such a busy week for me, but it's nearly over!  Yesterday I finished a cool JavaScript program, one of whose errors gave a good visual representation of a visual loop (the boxes are supposed to move to the left when an arrow is clicked, but when you use modulus in the "count" part of the loop, things can get out of hand):

I'm also on a mission to eat all of my lettuce and veggies before they go bad:

So far, I'd say that I'm off to a good start!

Monday, March 2, 2015

Not much to report from today; I went to my classes, did my homework and a little piano practice, took a Latin quiz and a nap (at different points in the day), made some food, and went to Circle (if you were looking for the play-by-play). :)  My wrist was pretty sore this morning; if you think of it, please keep that in prayer, and I'm going to talk to Dr. Cornett about it tomorrow.  I wrote my listening journal by speaking it into the computer (which translated it remarkably well!), which was an interesting experience. :)

Weekend of Dramatic Music

Friday night: successful Freak Piano Blowout!  A good, weird, fun night. :)

Saturday night: I saw the MN Orchestra and MN Chorale perform Verdi's Requiem!  It was a fantastic performance of an amazing piece -- and that Dies Irae... !!!  It's all worth a listen, and I recommend that you look it up, but there's something about a live performance that just takes it to the next level.

(I even have a picture: )

Today was a little more low-key (though, in order that what was written in the title of this post might be fulfilled, I have definitely thought "Dies Irae!" on and off throughout of the day, and I also listened to some Les Mis).  I was able to do homework (supposed to use Mathematica to solve a problem, but I wrote a Ruby program to do it instead, which I think should count for something ;)), run to the bank (literally -- it doubled as my exercise!), and make a little key-chain-thing for my flash-drive:

Isn't it cute?  I think that the nail polish adds a lot, too. :)

Now, to see how quickly I can finish math and get to bed. :)  Hope you all had a great weekend!

Thursday, February 26, 2015

Excitements of my day:

  • Beginning to learn the modulus operator (we made a little alert that was pretty exciting, actually ;))
  • Realizing that my time calculations were off and that I actually had an extra hour this morning in which to practice piano.
  • Accompanying half the choir for our sectional (I completely messed up the page turn multiple times, but life goes on, the girls were forgiving, and I got it eventually). :)
  • Mass at Sitzman Hall; the Chapel there is small and beautiful, and it was such a peaceful way to end the afternoon.
  • Sisterhood dinner, where we ate delicious rice and beans, Michaela-style (so rice, beans, corn, tomatoes, other spices...)
  • Panel on "Healthy Marriages in the Jewish and Catholic Traditions"; interesting to hear the Priest and Rabbi's thoughts on this.  (This Jewish/Catholic event organized not by my housemate, but her brother. :))

Tired...

Halfway through a crazily busy week!  I feel like it's been a while since I last posted, but there isn't much to report; I keep chugging away, making music and doing as much homework as I have time for.  This afternoon, we had our first Music History listening quiz of the semester (and then started listening to lieder! So much fun!).  I also made mac and cheese, which turned out better than my usual attempts at it. :)

(Clarification: this isn't the box mac and cheese -- all of my attempts at that have been overwhelmingly successful. ;))

Since I don't have a picture, here are some screenshots of my "8 Random Boxes" program, which displays 8 boxes of random colors -- I refreshed it a couple of times and picked these as the best color groups:

(This one with the browser tabs showing to prove that I made it work in the browser. :))

(And the last one to show how hard it is to get a good group of colors when you're grabbing them completely at random.)

Goodnight!
